Add page numbers to a PDF

Put numbers on every page, in the corner or the footer. Skip a cover if the first page should stay clean, and start counting from whatever number you need.

Your file is processed on your device and is never uploaded.

What this tool does

  • Nine positions, and four number formats
  • Skip a cover page, or start from any number
  • Text stays selectable — pages are not re-rendered

Drop in the file you want numbered.

  2. Choose how it looks

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave the cover page unnumbered?

Yes. Set "skip first pages" to 1 and numbering begins on page two. The running total adjusts to match, so a ten-page document with a skipped cover reads "1 of 9" rather than "2 of 10".

Can I start from a number other than 1?

Yes — useful when a document is one chapter of something larger. Set the starting number and the sequence continues from there.

Will this re-compress my PDF or blur the text?

No. The numbers are drawn into the existing page objects, so nothing is re-rendered. Your text stays selectable, vectors stay sharp, and embedded images keep their original bytes.

What happens if my pages are different sizes?

Each number is placed using its own page dimensions, so a document mixing portrait and landscape gets numbers in the right corner on every page rather than drifting on the odd ones.
