Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I open HEIC files?

HEIC is Apple’s default photo format since iOS 11. It stores the same picture in roughly half the space of a JPG, but support outside the Apple ecosystem is still patchy — many upload forms, older Windows versions and print shops reject it.

Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?

There is a small, generally invisible loss, because both formats are lossy and the image is re-encoded. The JPG will usually be noticeably larger than the HEIC for the same picture — that is the trade for universal compatibility.

Can I convert several HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and convert them in one pass, then download them together. Since decoding happens on your device, a large batch is limited only by memory.

Does this work on an iPhone?

Yes. The page runs in mobile Safari and Chrome. You can also avoid the conversion entirely by setting Settings → Camera → Formats to "Most Compatible", which makes the camera shoot JPG from then on.
