LinkedIn Banner Size
LinkedIn profile banners are a wide 4:1 strip. Cropping to it yourself avoids the awkward automatic crop that usually cuts the subject in half.

Frequently asked questions
Why 1584 × 396?
LinkedIn displays profile banners at 1584 x 396 — a 4:1 strip. Your profile photo overlaps the lower left of it, so keep anything important to the right of centre.
What should I keep inside the frame?
Your profile photo overlaps the lower left of the banner, and on a phone the strip is cropped narrower still. Keep the subject and any text to the right of centre and clear of the bottom left corner.
Why crop instead of just resizing?
Because the shapes rarely match. Resizing a 4:3 photo into a square either squashes it or leaves bars down the sides. Cropping lets you decide what to lose, which is the only way to get the right shape without distorting anyone’s face.
What if my photo is smaller than the target?
It will be enlarged to fit, and will look soft — enlarging cannot add detail that was never captured. The tool warns you when your selection is smaller than the target so you can pick a larger area or start from a better original.
Which format should I save as?
PNG if the banner carries text, a logo or flat colour — LinkedIn compresses banners noticeably and JPG artefacts show up around lettering. JPG is the better choice for a purely photographic background.
