Pixelate part of an image

Drag over the part you want to obscure and it is replaced with coarse blocks. Useful for screenshots with account numbers, and for photos with people who did not ask to be in them.

Your file is processed on your device and is never uploaded.

What this tool does

  • Block size scales with the area, so it looks right at any size
  • Several areas in one pass
  • The pixels are rewritten, so the detail is gone for good

Frequently asked questions

Can pixelated text be read again?

Sometimes, if the blocks are too small. Text pixelated coarsely is safe, but a light mosaic over a known font can be reversed by comparing against rendered candidates — this has been demonstrated on redacted documents. For anything sensitive use a high strength, or the solid block.

Why does the block size change between images?

It scales with the area you select rather than being fixed. A 40 pixel block would obliterate a small face and barely mark a large one, so tying it to the region keeps the effect looking consistent whatever you are covering.

Can I pixelate the whole image?

Drag a box across all of it. There is no separate control, because covering everything is rarely what people want — the usual task is hiding one specific thing.
