Frequently asked questions
Is WebP supported everywhere?
In browsers, effectively yes — every current version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge supports it. The gaps are outside the browser: some desktop image viewers and older upload forms still reject it.
How much smaller are WebP files?
Around 25–35% smaller than JPG at matching visual quality, and often much more for graphics with flat colour.
Should I use lossy or lossless WebP?
Lossy for photographs — it is what the quality slider controls here. Lossless WebP exists and suits logos and screenshots, though PNG is the safer choice for those if compatibility matters.
